A Priority Multi – Source switching with Periodic Shift of Generators
Due to unstable availability of electrical power being supplied for either domestic or industrial use, especially in developing countries, the need for sustainability of power supply is imperative, for this reason, this Microcontroller Based Priority Multi – Source switching with Periodic Shift of Generators is intended to use four sources namely; utility, solar, generator1 generator2, to change from one of them to another with given priority. Utility is given the highest priority followed by solar, then generator1 and fınally generator2 with six hours interval between the first and second generators. . The cycle will be continuously repeated. Second option which involves simple priority without automatic switch of generators can be considered. A pic16F877A microcontroller is used to regulate and coordinate the activities of voltage sensing circuit (for utility, solar and generators respectively), relay driver and LED indicators. A proposed block diagram of the system and flow chart were developed, the programming for the microcontroller was carried out using pickit2 programmer (in C++ programming language). Proteus suit software was used for simulating the system. The operation of the system designed was proved successful from the result obtained and the duration taken for the system design to work is about less than a second unless for generators where delay of about twenty seconds is observed for switching and stability
